My Medicare Registration

What is My Medicare?

MyMedicare is a voluntary Australian Government program that allows you to officially register with your regular GP and usual medical practice — like us here at Rutledge Family Medical Centre. For many patients, this simply formalises what you are already doing: seeing the same GP team who knows your medical history, understands your health needs, and can provide more consistent, personalised care. MyMedicare patients and their usual GP and practice will have access to new benefits to help deliver more of the care patients need, improving health outcomes.

What are the benefits?

By registering with Rutledge Family Medical Centre under MyMedicare, you may benefit from:

  • Better continuity of care with your regular GP and care team

  • Improved coordination of your healthcare, especially if you have ongoing or complex medical needs

  • Access to longer telehealth consultations, where clinically appropriate

  • Potential eligibility for additional Medicare-supported services and funding models as these expand over time

  • If you are eligible, access to higher Medicare telehealth bulk billing incentives for certain longer consultations, including some patients with a Commonwealth Concession Card and children under 16 years

MyMedicare is designed to support stronger, ongoing relationships between patients and their usual general practice.

Am I Eligible?

You may be able to register if you:

  • Hold a valid Medicare card or DVA Veteran Card, and

  • Have attended Rutledge Family Medical Centre for at least two face-to-face appointments within the last two years

Some patients living in remote areas may only need one visit to be eligible.

Do I have to register?

My Medicare is completely optional.

Already registered with another practice?

No problem. If Rutledge Family Medical Centre is now your regular GP clinic, you can choose to register with us instead. Once your new MyMedicare registration is completed, your previous registration will generally end automatically. If you are unsure whether you are already registered with another practice, our reception team can help.

How do I register for MyMedicare?

There are several easy ways to register with Rutledge Family Medical Centre.

1. Register online

You can register online through:

  • your Medicare Online Account via myGov, or

  • the Express Plus Medicare app

Simply select Rutledge Family Medical Centre as your preferred medical practice and nominate your usual GP if applicable. Once submitted, your request will be sent to our clinic for confirmation.

2. Register through reception

Our reception team can assist patients with the registration process at the clinic. Once started, you can confirm your registration through your Medicare account.

3. Complete a paper form

If you prefer, you can complete a MyMedicare Registration Form at the clinic. Our team can help you complete and submit the form.

Does MyMedicare affect My Health Record?

No — MyMedicare does not store your medical records. It simply allows Medicare to recognise your usual GP clinic. Your nominated practice may appear in My Health Record so other healthcare providers can see which GP clinic supports your regular care.
