Workers compensation GPs in Queanbeyan
GPs consulting at Rutledge can see you for a work-related injury or illness, complete your certificate of capacity and support your recovery and return to work.
Understanding workers compensation
If you're injured or become unwell because of your work, workers compensation can cover your medical treatment and part of your lost wages while you recover. A GP's role is to look after your health, record your injury and how it affects your work, and help you recover and get back to work safely.
Workers compensation rules are different in NSW and the ACT, depending on where your employer is based. Your employer and their insurer can explain how your claim works.
What happens, step by step
- Step 1
You're injured at work
Tell your employer as soon as you can and get the care you need. In an emergency, call 000.
- Step 2
See your GP
Your GP assesses and treats your injury, and completes your first certificate of capacity. This shows what you can and can't do at work for now.
- Step 3
Your claim starts
Give your certificate to your employer. Their insurer will contact you and give you a claim number. Bring it to your next appointment.
- Step 4
Treatment and recovery
Your GP reviews you regularly and may refer you for tests, physiotherapy, psychology or a specialist. Some treatment needs the insurer's approval before it starts.
- Step 5
Getting back to work
As you recover, your GP updates your certificate and works with you, your employer and the insurer on safe, suitable duties.
- Step 6
Back to full duties
When you're well enough to return to your usual work, your GP gives you a final certificate.
