Fees and bulk billing

Practitioners at Rutledge Family Medical Centre are independent practitioners who consult from the centre under their own arrangements. Each practitioner sets their own fees and privately bills for their services.

The fees below are a guide to help you understand likely costs. An individual practitioner's fees may differ, so please confirm with your practitioner or reception when you book.

How fees work

  • A consultation fee applies, and Medicare pays a rebate that contributes toward the cost.
  • This applies to in-person and telehealth (phone and video) appointments.
  • All fees are payable on the day of your appointment.
  • Weekend and public holiday standard consultations are privately billed for all patients.
  • Medicare rebates are set by the Australian Government and can change. Whether you can claim a rebate depends on your eligibility, such as having a valid Medicare card and, for some services, a referral or plan from your GP.

GP fee guide

Individual fees are set by each doctor. Out-of-pocket costs apply from 20 April 2026. Rebates and total fees are as at 1 July 2026.

  • Some procedures attract additional fees, depending on the doctor and the procedure.
  • Dressings may have a charge of $35 to $50, depending on the dressing required.
  • Antenatal appointments may incur a fee. Please speak to your GP obstetrician.
  • Ear syringing by a nurse has a nurse fee. Please ask reception.

Weekend and public holiday fees

Weekend and public holiday clinics make it easier to see a practitioner when it suits you, outside the working week. Keeping the centre open on these days costs more to run, including penalty rates for staff, so fees are a little higher.

Weekend and public holiday appointments are privately billed for all patients, including patients who are usually bulk billed. Thank you for your understanding.

Psychology

With a valid Mental Health Treatment Plan from your usual GP, you may be eligible for a Medicare rebate. Your referring GP needs to review your plan after the first 6 sessions. How it works

A Mental Health Treatment Plan does not cover autism assessments or autism-specific counselling. It does cover common mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression and sleep problems.

Why are there out-of-pocket fees?

The cost of providing high-quality medical care has risen faster than Medicare rebates. Inflation is currently running at 4.2%, while Medicare rebates rose by 2.6% from 1 July 2026. Because the rebate no longer covers the cost of care, an out-of-pocket fee may apply to all patients, other than those listed above.

Practitioners review their fees from time to time to reflect the cost of delivering care.
