LARC referrals: IUD and contraceptive implant
Practitioners consulting at Rutledge accept referrals for long-acting reversible contraception (LARC): inserting, removing and replacing IUDs and contraceptive implants in the arm.
What you can refer for
- IUD insertion, removal or replacement (hormonal or copper)
- Contraceptive implant insertion, removal or replacement
How it works
- 1Consultation. The practitioner talks through the options, health history and consent, and checks whether any tests are needed first.
- 2Procedure appointment. The insertion or removal is done at Rutledge.
- 3Follow-up. A check-up, if the practitioner advises one.
Please include in the referral
- Patient name, date of birth, phone number and Medicare number
- What is needed: insertion, removal or replacement, and the type of LARC if known
- Relevant history, including pregnancies, caesarean births and any past problems with an IUD or implant
- Recent cervical screening and STI test results, if available
- Current medicines and allergies
How to refer
- HealthLink. EDI: Rutledge (Rutledge Family Medical Centre, Queanbeyan).

Address the referral to a practitioner by name, or to the next available practitioner. Once the referral arrives, reception will contact the patient to book and send them a new patient form.
Thank you for your referrals. The treating practitioner will send you a letter after seeing your patient, so you are kept up to date with their care.
Cost
The LARC procedure itself is bulk billed. A consultation is needed beforehand, and the usual consultation fee applies. See fees
For patients
You can book directly with one of the practitioners below, or ask your own GP to send a referral. You don't need a referral to book.
